Districts and owners

Every district has an owner. A District Center you place is yours. One already on the map belongs to nobody until a player takes it from its panel (“Owned by”). After that it can’t change hands, except by being destroyed.

A building belongs to the owner of its district. With Border protection on, nobody can demolish, pause or change the settings of another player’s buildings and beavers. You can only place buildings in your own districts or in ones nobody owns. Toll stations are the exception: you place them on other players’ roads (see Toll Station).

Other players’ districts don’t show up in your lists: the district list at the top, the batch control (its district dropdown and “All districts” view) and the population tab where you move beavers between districts. Districts nobody owns do.

Sharing. The Ownership tools in the toolbar make a building you placed shared, so other players can use and change it, or take a shared one back. You can never take someone else’s.

Working hours and cutting areas. Each player sets their own working hours, and each district follows its owner’s. The trees you mark for cutting are yours: other players’ lumberjacks leave them alone, and only you can unmark them.

Land claims

Claimed land is land other players can’t build on, allies aside. Placing on it shows “This land is claimed by” and the owner’s name. Where two claims overlap, the older one wins.

District Centers claim the land around them, more as the district grows: 8 tiles, plus the square root of twice its population, plus a quarter of its average wellbeing, up to 32.

Watchtowers claim 18 tiles around them, more the higher they stand above the land around them (up to 9 extra tiles). They burn a log every 4 hours, and claim only while lit and connected to their district. Cut off, they go out and keep their logs. A Watchtower also sends an automation signal while enemy troops or bandits stand on its land.

Fog of war

In a game with other players you only see what’s near your land claims, your buildings, beavers and troops, and your paths, and the same around your allies’. Troops see as far as they fight, more from higher ground. Wall towers see 8 tiles.

Out of sight, other players’ buildings, beavers, roads, crops and cursors are hidden. A building you’ve seen before stays where you saw it, as a frozen copy you can’t click, until you see that spot again.

You can plan buildings in the fog. If another player plans the same spot without knowing, whoever sees it first gets it, and yours stays as a phantom until you can see the spot.

The fog only hides things from you. It doesn’t change what happens in the game.

Roads and new districts

With Costly expansion on, builders lay your roads (quickly, and for free), and every District Center after your first costs 100 logs, 120 planks, 60 gears, 30 metal blocks and 800 science, and is built like any other building.

Colors

Each player’s districts show their color: on the District Center’s banner, on roofs, path pebbles and tubeway glass, and faintly on construction sites. The color is your BeaverBuddies ping color. Show district owner colors turns it off for you.
